Massive protests are underway in Hong Kong against a proposed extradition law that would allow Hong Kong residents to be extradited to China. Get the latest details in our LIVE COVERAGE.
Protests began near the LegCo (Legislative Council) building in Hong Kong this morning, and protesters have occupied and blocked off a number of major roads. The new extradition law would allow residents of Hong Kong (which is technically part of China) to be extradited to mainland China to face prosecution there for certain crimes. China's justice system offers much less protection to defendants than Hong Kong's system, and is widely seen as opaque and biased toward the state. Over a million Hong Kong residents protested against the proposed law on Sunday, according to protest organizers.
